“My gift is my song and this one’s for you…” is perhaps an apt title for this blog post. I was fortunate enough to be given the gift of music last night at Rotherham Golf Club. John Reilly and Lewis Nitikman performed an evening of the songs of Elton John and a fair few from Billy Joel too to the delight of the audience.
They sat enraptured and at times singing along as John sang the great songs of Elton John (including Your Song, Benny and the Jets, Tonight, Alice, Candle in the Wind to name but a few). And also some greats of Billy Joel – Innocent Man being a stand out track, as well as the very moving Goodnight Saigon, delivered with much panache.
Lewis again gave a superb performance despite a bad bout of cold that saw him coughing a few times as he swapped Sambuca for tea this time as his concert tipple…! He played almost flawlessly through some very challenging songs and received much plaudits for turning out when obviously so poorly.
A word too about the venue – Rotherham Golf Club. A very nice, classy venue, good sound in the warm room, but the room did get hotter and hotter all evening! The package on offer included a lovely pork sandwich with the trimmings and a drink as well as the gig – nice food, nice people!
The concert being near Christmas meant there was an obligatory Christmas song, and I was delighted to hear the old Nat King Cole favourite The Christmas Song! And as the song says “And so I’m offering this simple phrase
To kids from one to ninety-two
Although it’s been said many times, many ways
Merry Christmas to you”
Merry Christmas Everyone…! Andy
